Walk with us

A new life for
old dogs

Our Mission

Meade Canine Rescue’s mission has always been to help alleviate the pet overpopulation problem that results tragically in the euthanasia of millions of healthy sentient canines who deserve so much more.

Since the rescue in 2001 of our first amazing dog from a Jersey City dog pound, we began the task of saving the least adoptable dogs from high kill dog pounds where their fates hung in the balance and began to place them in great homes, one by one.  By advocating better education, providing medical care and spaying/neutering as many dogs as possible with the resources available we kept matching pound dogs with families and the dream of being able to help dogs and cats became a reality.

We tirelessly saved lives, going from pound to pound and taking in animals who would have been completely overlooked and destroyed.  The stories we can tell are often unsettling but many are heartwarming and quite a few are almost miraculous.

In Charlotte’s Words

“As for what is most important at this stage,  it would be educating people in the aspects and realities of dog rescue and the need for it and the need for people to change behaviors. There is ALOT in that area that needs to be put out there.  As well as vet information and disinformation.   I’d love to be able to do more there.  By the way, CA was just rated numero uno in dog dump states as in owners getting rid of their dogs so go figure.  I am certainly not surprised.

Of course increased donations  and probably when more of the ‘big guns’ (corporate donations of which we get none) look into us and when we apply for grants (infrequently these days) a quality site makes a huge difference?

Adoptions at a senior rescue are great when they happen and that ties in to educating about blind etc. and posting what we require in adopters etc.”

What I think

Charlotte is admiringly big on educating people about dog rescue realities, euthanizations, and her criticism of some veterinarian practices with senior dogs BUT in my eyes, this should be first about shining a light on the amazing stuff she is doing and the dogs she is saving.

Once she gets the traction from that she/we can focus on getting her ideology out there. It can/should obviously be a part of the new site (she said she will write up some content on it) but just not the main focus in my opinion.
